We are seeking a highly experienced Chief Estimator to lead our client’s estimating department and drive the accuracy and efficiency of project cost assessments. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of the multifamily construction practices and cost management strategies to oversee all estimating processes, ensuring that our bids are competitive and reflective of the highest standards of quality and precision.

Our client is an owner-builder (self-performing developer ) and we are looking for the same experience as this position will need to provide costing and pre-construction analysis from back-of-napkin concepts through CDs. This candidate will need to be able to think though problems and provide answers in real time.  Our client is a national owner/operator/developer and builder of multifamily projects. 

Location: In Los Angeles office at least 4 days a week, work from home 1 day a week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the estimating department, providing mentorship and guidance to junior estimators while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop comprehensive project scopes and cost estimates for various modular multifamily construction projects.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
  • Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the estimating process..client uses Procore.
  • Review and validate estimates prepared by team members, ensuring compliance with company standards and best practices.
  • Participate in bid reviews and presentations, effectively communicating estimating strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor market trends and material costs to proactively adjust estimating practices and maintain competitiveness in bids.
  • Establish a historical database of prior projects to create “best practices”

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • 15+ years of experience in construction estimating, with a strong background in commercial and residential projects, specifically multifamily (modular being a plus). With recent experience work for an owner-builder (self-performing)
  • Proven track record of successfully managing estimating teams and processes.
  • Expertise in construction methodologies, material costs, and labor rates.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex project details and make sound decisions.
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as ProCore and Yardi.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with value engineering and cost-saving strategies.
  • Familiarity with project management software and construction scheduling tools.

Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies

  • Advanced knowledge of construction estimation software and tools.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Understanding of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
