CLIENT DESCRIPTION

Our client is  rapidly growing Southern California company employing innovative off-site multifamily modular design to address today’s housing crisis through socially responsible housing production. With over 2,000 units under design, entitlement, production, and construction in San Diego and Los Angeles, they are designing and delivering the unsubsidized and mixed-use multifamily housing projects that provide the work force and middle-income homes that public officials and households are demanding. Their in-house architecture firm, is delivering design outcomes through an integrative process that collaborates with our product design, development, manufacturing, and tenant management divisions.

POSITION SUMMARY

Our client is seeking an experienced, creative, and tech-savvy Director of Architecture with a minimum of fifteen or more years of architecture and multi-family design experience to lead and manage the architectural and technical production and quality control of projects from Schematic Design through Construction Administration. The company’s Directors contribute to the onsite- and offsite-architectural design, production, quality control, approval, and construction administration components of our client’s multi-family and mixed-use modular projects.

The Director of Architecture, reports to the Chief Architect Officer, and oversees the architectural production of all projects and oversees Project Managers, Lead Architects, and architectural staff through all aspects of architectural production, detailing, quality control, and jurisdictional approvals., They are well-versed and passionate about the with technical, design, code, detail, and approvals problem-solving components of projects. They also develop and manage standardized quality control systems that are utilized on all projects, assess and manage performance and project design outputs, and work with the Chief Architect Officer, The Coporate Officers and Directors, as well as Senior Project Managers to develop, document, and implement standard operating procedures and key performance indicators. Directors work well within a cross-disciplinary environment including  fellow team members, consultants, and building officials and are knowledgeable of a wide range of design tools (Revit and BIM 360 or equal) and management applications (Excel and Smartsheet or equal).

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 15 to 20 or more years of directed career work including substantive experience on multifamily projects and use of Revit or equal as well as other software applications utilized for architectural design and the management of projects such as but not limited to Bluebeam Revu, Smartsheet, or equal.

Education

  • First professional degree or equal.

Architectural License

  • Licensed

Key Skills

  • Experience managing architectural teams and consultants through all phases of design and construction on multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with and management of the production, code, and technical aspects of architectural projects.
  • Managing and documenting project quality control to assess and ensure the accuracy of the work products prepared by staff across multiple projects.
  • Experience with overseeing schedules and budgets.
  • Substantive experience with multifamily architectural design through all design phases with an understanding and knowledge of the materials and detailing typically associated with Type I, Type III, and Type V multifamily residential and mixed-use construction.
  • Technical competence as evidenced by the quality of work on previous projects and demonstrated knowledge of building code and project approval processes.
  • Experience and interest in architectural detailing, integrative building systems, architectural technology, code research, creative use of building and planning codes, building sciences, and constructability.
  • Self-organizer and self-manager of work, tasks, schedules, and people.
  • Clear communicator of concepts, task status, and milestones in both written and visual formats.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership, management, oversight, development, and quality control of Impact Housing’s architectural technology and production processes and projects.
  • Interest and experience in team building and the mentoring of less experienced colleagues.
