Director of Finance – Real Estate Development
OUR CLIENT is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to join a growing, entrepreneurial real estate development platform. This role will be a key partner to senior leadership and play a central role across development, acquisitions, capital markets, and investor relations.
The Director of Finance will be responsible for, overseeing, and ensuring financial execution aligns with performance targets across multifamily and BTR projects. This position will also lead finance team execution, manage direct reports, and support firmwide accounting, reporting, and operational finance functions.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Markets & Project Finance
- , and manage project debt for BTR and multifamily projects
- Support and coordinate equity raises, including preparation of presentations, investment memorandums, and related materials
- Manage relationships with lenders and equity investors
- Review and monitor financial obligations under joint venture agreements
Financial Modeling & Analysis
- Partner with development and acquisitions teams on underwriting, feasibility analysis, and deal execution
- Deliver financial reporting and insights to senior management and investors
Team Leadership & Operations
- Lead execution of finance team priorities and manage two direct reports
- Create, document, and maintain SOPs across finance and accounting functions
- Lead special projects and strategic initiatives as required
Accounting, Reporting & Entity Management
- Oversee internal bookkeeping for our client and multiple project-level LLCs.
- Manage income, expenses, and financial controls across entities
- Administer investor platforms, including distributions, K-1s, and reporting
- Open and maintain bank accounts for new entities
- Oversee payroll from a financial/accounting perspective (non-HR)
- Coordinate and oversee financial audits for properties
- Maintain principals’ REO schedules
- Assist with principals’ taxes, K-1s, and related filings
External Engagement
- Engage actively within the broader real estate and capital markets community
Qualifications
- Passion for real estate development and finance
- 7+ years of real estate finance experience or equivalent
- Strong expertise in real estate financial modeling and debt structures
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, growing environment
- Experience with legal agreements and negotiations
- Collaborative, with strong cross-functional communication skills
- Motivated, analytical, and solution-oriented
- CFA, CPA, or progress toward a professional designation is a plus
Compensation is commensurate with experience and include base salary, bonus potential and benefits.
